Father Invents A Prosthetic Hand For His Son With A 3D Printer
Leon is a child who was born without fingers on his left hand. Instead of making him feel inferior to other children, his father Paul McCarthy found a way to make him feel special.
With the help of a 3D printer, the man has created a colorful prosthesis that made his son feel a bit like a cyborg. The video below is taken from CBS Evening News and explains how Paul has used the instructions and drawings of inventor Ivan Owen to create the prosthesis for her Leon.
Moreover, the costs (including the purchase of the printer) were less than a real prosthesis (price can reach up to $30,000). Another benefit is that the hand can be redesigned and reprinted as Leon grows. The best part of the clip below is the interview with Leon; like many children he thinks it is actually cool to be a cyborg .
